Form Factors

Symbiosis

Pervasive, Mobile and Wearable Computing

Pervasive, Mobile and Wearable Computing is transforming the way people conduct business, take care of their health, entertain themselves, and more.

Several research challenges arise in the area of user interface design, power management, input devices, wireless communication, sensors, data syncrhonization and analysis, and device symbiosis for pervasive devices and wearables.

IBM Researchers have developed several novel mobile form factors that span a spectrum of usage models. The form factors prototyped over the years inlcude the Wearable Computer, the Linux Watch, the MetaPad, the Personal Mobile Hub, and SoulPad.

The overall theme is to explore how business processes can be made more efficient with the use of pervasive technology and to understand the changes they drive in the back-end and the infrastructure.
