Denise EdwardsDenise Edwards is an intern with the Social Computing Group at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in New York. She holds a BS in Computer Science from the City University of New York, Lehman College, and is currently in the Masters program. Her goal is to pursue a PhD in Computational Geometry/Biology with a view to Computer Visualization. Her activities with Social Computing include implementing the Timeline Social Proxy for the Loops application. The Timeline is a visualization tool providing cues about the presence and activity of participants in an online conversation system. It shows the history of participants presence and activities, thus providing cues about who has been listening in asynchronous conversations. Her previous internship work was with the Pervasive Computing/Next Generation Group where she worked on a web accessibility research project for people with disabilities. She implemented a Web Proxy, using IBMs Web Browser Intelligence technology, that analyzed HTML code for web accessibility. Denise is also involved in research activities with researchers at University of Texas at Austin and Lehman College, CUNY, specializing in computer visualization and phylogenetic reconstruction algorithms. Her activities include working with other students in programming a visualization tool for evolutionary biologists. Personal interests include composing, playing and recording music; independent
film production; radio/television broadcasting and web page development.
Denise continues to seek creative outlets and finds this to be an important
channel through which innovative ideas can be developed.
