Dynamic Logical PARtitioning on the AIX-PPC Platform
The main objective of this project (DLPAR)
is to design an architecture and a prototype for the movement of hardware
resources in and out of an AIX image running in a Logical PARtition dynamically
and non-disruptively, i.e. without requiring reboots. Examples
of hardware resources are: processors, memory, IO, and nodes.
The PPC system to be partitioned may be a PPC-SMP
or a PPC-NUMA system which consists of a set of SMPs connected together
via the Federation switch and shared memory adapters to form a NUMA system.
We are also studying and simulating the automatic movement of hardware
resources across partitions due to workload demands of the partitions.
