Piloted Applications for eVillage
The following applications have been piloted:
- Automated generation of a community portal - a directory of Web sites associated with the community - much like the directory provided by a Yahoo or AOL, but generated automatically or semi-automatically. This would include specific refinement to consolidate the directory needs of local, county and state government.
- Registration of individuals and groups, enabling us to guarantee the identity of individuals, for such purposes as voting, customize presentation of data to the individual and control access to group functions such as calendars and discussion groups.
- Calendars that support groups within the community individually and collectively, so that postings may be made to one or more calendars, and any subsequent changes would be reflected in all the calendars where an event occurs. Postings may be made directly or under control of a moderator. Registered individuals may customize their view of a calendar to incorporate only those calendars or event types that they are interested in.
- Configurable discussions designed to foster responsible dialog while encouraging participation. Discussions will be structured to emulate common public dialogs such as issue consideration, public hearings or candidate debates, and the discussion leader will be able to designate such attributes as active and 'listening' participants, anonymity of participation, length and frequency of postings, whether or not votes will be taken, and so on.
