Stephen Chu

Biography:

Stephen Mingyu Chu was born in Beijing, China, in 1970. He studied Physics at Peking University before coming to the United States, where he continued his education and received the M.S. degree and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, in 1999 and 2003, respectively. His Ph.D. thesis looked into multimodal fusion with applications to audio-visual speech recognition. The research was carried out under the guidance of Professor Thomas S. Huang.

Since May, 2003, he has been with the Human Language Technologies Group at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center. His research interests include audio-visual speech recognition, multimodal signal processing, graphical models, and machine learning.
