The IBM 3D Interaction Accelerator was a software product that enabled the real-time visualization and inspection of very large, highly complex mechanical and architectural CAD models. Introduced in 1994 and withdrawn in 1998, the product provided a tactical solution to the problem of visualizing large models at interactive frame rates. The IBM Program Product CATIA 4D Navigator(R) was introduced in 1997 and now serves as the IBM strategic solution for CAD visualization. The group responsible for the core technology in the IBM 3D Interaction Accelerator continues to work on algorithms and technologies for large model visualization.
